Nina Buisson – Original Technique & ArtisticVision

Nina Buisson’s Contemporary Dance Technique offers a unique approach to exploring the inner movement that emanates from the energy centers and spirals into undulating waves of dynamic and stillness. Her “Tanz-Theater” ridden expressionistic idiom emphasizes energy and fluidity over shaping and form, skeletal freedom over muscular tension. Her proficiency in a multitude of somatic techniques allows her to bounce freely from Tai-chi-Chuan and Yoga vocabularies through Classical Ballet and Modern Dance to Butoh and Contact Improvisation. Nina brings a new breath based musicality to her suspended and bouncy movement, that circles through the body like a serpent, bounds and rebounds into levity. Her abrupt alternations of levels and planes, spiral fluidity of the axis, intricate footwork and unexpected floor-center transitions makes her dance swing into extremes – wild and meditative, quiet and powerful, abundant and minimalist.

Like Pina Bausch from where her technique is inspired Nina’s kinetic contemplations are not about the movements per se, but about the causes of inner action. She does not observe “how people move, but what moves them.” Nina is interested in interpreting states of the body and mind rooted in real life situations. Her dance is unconventional, replete with futuristic urgency and archaic simplicity.
Like a dance archeologist, Nina “escavates” imagery-driven movement that captures the spirit of her students, shaking them out of their comfort zones. Nina’s technique supports ecstatic presence, the uniqueness of each individual. Her classes are open sessions for cultivating the body, mind and spirit, creating an environment for personal exploration and freedom, for sharing and remembering that we are all interconnected and equal, tapping into a mutual source, but walking our separate journeys to personal authenticity and self-expression. Nina embraces dance as a shared experience of personal growth and collective synergy.
